¿Qué es Numismática?
La definición más sencilla de Numismática, se podrÃa decir que; es el término que designa el estudio y coleccionismo de monedas, emitidas por un paÃs, con el diseño oficial de la nación.
Si tomamos en cuenta la realidad actual, se incluye también el coleccionismo de billetes, fichas, medallas, insignias, y piezas afines. En la antigüedad las monedas, poseÃan un valor intrÃnseco, es decir, contenÃan una cantidad de oro o plata equivalente a su valor. Ahora bien, los paÃses han sustituido las monedas de oro o plata por otras fabricadas en metales de bajo costo y, por lo tanto, no poseen un valor intrÃnseco, pasando a ser dinero fiduciario. Los metales preciosos, se quedaron para las monedas conmemorativas o de inversión. Las monedas y las medallas están estrechamente relacionadas, ya que, comparten procesos similares en el diseño y fabricación de los modelos, ensayos y troqueles.
